Harissa peorogies

So, last night a former work colleague posted a photo from a wine bar in California of "harissa fries." It got me thinking...

I made Wegmans spinach peorogies. I have a whole process for making them. I boil them in water for a couple minutes, drain, cool with cold water, dry with kitchen towels and only THEN do I put them in my cast iron skillet with heated oil.

Today I added garlic pepper to the oil.

After I cooked my family's meal, I addeda bunch of harissa to the oil before I cooked mine. That was yummy. Of course, because they were the last ones prepared, the harissa sputtered and spit like mad.

Dinner is a vegetable

We went for my birthday ice cream at 5 pm, a nice peanut butter ice cream dusty road at the Purple Cow Creamery. Heavenly!

Now, it's 6:30 and I made some organic carrot sticks, raw cucumbers and fried up some Wegmans feta and spinach peorogies in leftover oil from last night.

That should make up for a lack of real food.

Salad and peorogies

Tonight we had salad with peorogies for dinner.

For salad:
The last of a romaine bagged salad with shredded carrots, some green leaf lettuce, and cucumbers with ranch for the kid and ginger-sesame vinaigrette for the adult.

Food You Can Feel Good About (Wegmans store brand) Spinach-Feta Peorogies, which I fried in the Le Creuset skillet in a mix of olive oil, canola oil and butter.

The family loved it. Lots of vitamin A, iron, protein and fiber too.

Dill Peorogies

I had my big work event yesterday, and didn't get any food at the party, so my husband got me a couple of pizzas from Papa Johns. We had buy one get one free coupons.

We had pizza for breakfast, too.

For dinner tonight my daughter is having her leftover Mexican and a side of spinach feta peorogies from Wegmans. I'm going to fry them in oil with butter and fresh dill.

Peorogies and vegetables in white wine cream sauce

Forgive my lack of specifics because this isn't a recipe "high caliber" enough for the world...

Tonight, I took Wegmans Spinach Feta peorogies, boiled them, dried them, and then fried them in butter and extra virgin olive oil. I put them in the oven to keep them warm and in the skillet I combined approximately:
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoons garlic pepper
  • 1 teaspoon it's a dilly
  • 1 teaspoon parsley
  • less than 1/4 cup bordeaux
When I had that stirred into a nice consistency, I added about two cups cauliflower, carrots and broccoli. Then I poured all that over the peorogies.

Stir

Take Out! Naughty Mommy...

I have a library board meeting today, and although I'm already at the end of my monthly food budget, I opted for takeout. I had a friend who visited until 4:30, and in-laws who popped in unexpectedly, so I used my birthday money lingering in my wallet for food.

We have a neighborhood bar, Shruty's, less than a block away. We ordered a large taco pizza (sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and chip steak as toppings... Tomatoes and lettuce, vegetables, right?)

Chili, it is cold and rainy... Turned out to be enough for all of us.

Breaded cauliflower (greasy indulgence, but a vegetable, right?)

And their homemade peorogies (Which we never had before: incredible)

Total: $21

Peorogies with spinach and feta & roasted red pepper tomato soup

My daughter had one of those hollow leg days, where she eats and eats and eats.

When I had a yogurt, she ate half. She ate half her daddy's banana, then a ton of broccoli, then most of her peanut butter sandwich. When we got home, about an hour later, she ate half my leftover pork with apricots and one mini-egg roll.

Since my lunch had been pilfered, I poured some of this cajun trail mix I bought at Aldi. She ate half that too. I normally make my own trail mix (not as yummy as Gayle's), but this big bag was $3 and I liked that it was spicy, something different for the old taste buds.

During my site visit to Northeast Middle School, one of the girl's shared her potato chips with my daughter about half (if not more) of the single serving bag.

For dinner, I made Pacific Foods organic tomato and roasted red pepper soup with parmesan goldfish and Wegmans spinach and feta peorogies with sour cream. They were incredible!!!!!
